What is TED?

TED is a global foundation devoted to the overall mission, "Ideas Worth Spreading". It started in 1984 as a conference bringing together individuals from three unique worlds; Technology, Entertainment and Design. Since then its scope has only become broader. With its annual conferences, website TED.com, initiatives and community projects, it is now a global platform and movement focused on meaningful change through the power of ideas. Few notable speakers include, Bill Gates, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Bill Clinton, James Cameron, Al Gore, Stephen Hawking and many others.

So, what is TEDx?

TEDx is an international community that organizes TED­style events anywhere and everywhere ­­ celebrating locally­driven ideas and elevating them to a global stage. TEDx events are produced independently of TED conferences, each event curates speakers on their own, but based on TED's format and rules.
