Meet The Speakers

Personally, I’ve always viewed TED talks as a source of inspiration. Through them, I was exposed to different ideologies, thoughts, and philosophies. I have always wanted to take part of such an outstanding event and share my ideas. “Ideas worth sharing” is a phrase that always motivates me to think, to share, and to express. Once I look into myself, I find endless motivation to hustle and to achieve my dreams. I wake up everyday wanting to make my self proud. As I grow, I perceive the importance of individuality; I am always aware of my choices, and the reasons behind them. I want to achieve my dreams and not my parents’ dreams, my friends’ dreams, or society’s dreams. I want to grow into who I want to be, and succeed in the fields I want to succeed in. Nowadays, people are massively affected by other’s opinions and by society’s norms. Individuality is one of the most important keys to a successful life. It is the path to the true definition of success. I believe my idea is worth sharing. I believe my talk can inspire people to break out of the box set by society and soar with absolutely no limits. I believe in the importance of individuality.

The status quo, the capitalist system in which we live, just isn’t working for the majority of people. However, we as a species do have the ability to change our conditions and to develop an alternative to capitalism. Instead of a system in which the masses of people are exploited by the wealthy and where profit rules, we are able to demand and create a system in which the masses of people are the supreme arbiters of their own lives. We can move past capitalism and build a society in which the needs of society, not the needs of profit, will be the primary driving force of economic activity. There are already examples in which the working people have taken control over their workplace, established worker-controlled co-operatives, and have liberated themselves from the shackles of individual capitalists. I propose we take this further and abolish the entire capitalist system, something that we can and must do provided we have the consciousness, organisation, solidarity, and support. The alternative we can usher in can be based on democratic control of economic units and production for social need. It is my conviction that human society does have the ability to bring about its own emancipation in this way that has encouraged me to participate in this TedxYouth event.

I feel very honored to be currently studying in Dubai and to have received this opportunity to voice out my idea at a TEDx Talk, and I just want to use this platform to empower and enrich others. My idea worth spreading involves the transformation of perceptions of the continent of Africa because perceptions are the crux of all human action ,and once we can change them,we can also influence others to make better decisions and do better actions. Alleviating poverty in Africa and in other parts of the world through financial empowerment and not only through charity awareness is a cause worth pursuing, and I hope my idea worth spreading will show this. I grew up in Zimbabwe, where in 2008 a hyperinflation of our currency caused us to abandon it entirely and adopt a multicurrency system of trade. I saw the debilitating effect that this had on our people, a nation's greatest resource. Growing up in such an environment has motivated and inspired my passion for finance and my passion to use investment as a vehicle for economic upliftment and for emotional, financial, and healthy well-being. My desire with this TEDx Talk it to be a part of the solution and to spark a light that will also encourage others to be the change that they want to see.

I chose to be a part of TEDx Youth because I have always believed in the power a voice can have in changing the hearts and minds of others. My idea revolves around the need for equality in education - more specifically, fighting for the rights of young girls in impoverished nations who are prevented from going to school. This is a major problem that affects hundreds of thousands of girls yet few people seem to want to make a change. Not only that, but if there were to be a fundamental shift towards gender equality in the education sector, villages, cities, countries and continents would eventually benefit in noticeable ways. I hope that my idea will spread more awareness about our world's current situation in regards to education as well as encourage others to fight for the girls who are denied their right to learn. I am exceptionally honored to be a part of TEDx Youth 2016 and excited to share my idea worth spreading.

The words we say are extremely powerful tools that can make a change. Having the opportunity and chance to use this powerful tool is a privilege, with that opportunity you can spread new ideas, solutions and discoveries, and that's what TEDx provides. Knowing that, I decided to be part of this event and use it as a first step into spreading my ideas which are, using new methods to provide the entire nation with energy, and how changing a perspective can lead to new discoveries and purposes. Resources such as waste water, plastic and glass aren't just water plastic and glass, they're much more than that, they're actual sources of clean electricity. Treating waste water in a new non-pollutive way can provide us with electricity. Using glass and plastic for more than what they seem to be will again, provide us with electricity. That's what I'll be taking about in this event, the ideas of how we can use such resources to get energy and clean electricity. With this great opportunity, I hope to inspire the youth to become individuals that want to come up with solutions and make new discoveries that can help not only one person but thousands and millions.

Curiosity is a beautiful thing. It is what makes us different from all the other life on earth. It is what makes us human. TEDx is a platform that celebrates curiosity in its finest sense, and that's pretty much why I've always been attracted to the concept of sharing ideas, not with an agenda, but purely for the love of thought and intellect itself. In my talk I explore the future of economics and the trends of development today, and where they should be heading. For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with the elegance of mathematics, the fundamental sciences and technology. It's truly amazing how far we've come. Yet, somewhere down the road I picked up an unusual inclination towards economics. My goal, is to explore the possibility of an alternative economy, with a paradigm shift enabled by the wonderful technology of the future. As a listener, you might like my ideas. You may agree with me. You may just as well disagree. Perhaps you may even think it's ridiculous, but hey.. The least I can do, is make you think.

Students make 20% of our population, but 100% of our future. It is our duty to develop those growing minds. I, Aysha Zarooni, strongly believe that there is a huge misunderstanding of what it really means to innovate in education. The future of education cannot be found in a gadget, application or software but in fact, can be found within our classrooms. Today, as a developing society, we need people who think creatively, independently and with the ability to connect, which is why we need to innovate in education to be able to enhance these traits within our generation. TEDx is a new and exciting opportunity for me to showcase my ideas and interests in improving educational methods and take a step towards making a change in a field very close to my heart.

Being a part of TEDx always seemed like this unreachable dream, I’ve harboured the mentality that I would never be able to project my ideas and what I fight for. Discovering TEDx widened my horizons because I’d always think to myself, “Look at all these different types of people with differing perspectives, opinions and ideas, they somehow manage to share the same platform. I want to be able to be a part of that someday.” I wanted to be a part of a force that gives people the opportunity to change the world, in some way shape or form. The theme behind my talk is the idea of utilising your passion and using it create change and the main message is to encourage action, to make people aware of the power they have in their hands, the infinite possibilities of what they could achieve. That change is not just centred around people, it’s new inventions within technology, a new antidote in medicine, a formula in mathematics, a newly discovered species in biology. It is anything you want it to be, as long as your intention is to make life easier for yourself and the people around you and that being aware of all this, is just the first step to journey way bigger than you could ever imagine.
